Wood scores Toyota’s first podium in Supercars

Young Kiwi Ryan Wood claimed the first podium for the Toyota Supra Supercar in race five of the series (race two of the weekend) at the Australian Grand Prix.
Wood kept his nose clean and profited from the rough and tumble of other competitors to come home in third place.
“It’s been a lot of hard work behind the scenes over the last 18 months; I’m stoked to help mark the history books with Toyota’s first podium in Supercars,” Wood said.
“The Toyota project has been a massive undertaking; our crew have sacrificed so much to get to where we are today. It’s nice to reward them with a podium so early on in the season.
“We still have a lot of work to do overnight. The guys ahead were very speedy, we will put our heads together to make sure we come out even stronger tomorrow.”
Dick Johnson Racing’s Brodie Kostecki took his second victory of the weekend in the #17 Mustang, while Kiwi Matt Payne finished second in his Grove Racing Mustang to hold on to the Championship lead.
Sadly, Wood was blocked by the backed up field on his flying lap during qualifying for Sunday’s race seven and will start from 24th and last place.
He qualified sixth for this afternoon’s race six.
Triple Eight drivers, Broc Feeney and Will Brown, will start from pole for races six and seven respectively, in their Ford Mustangs.
