Tickford Racing’s Cameron Waters has defied Triple Eight Race Engineering’s Shane van Gisbergen charge to win two of the three races at the Pizza Hut Winton SuperSprint.
Waters held off van Gisbergen in two tense finishes at Winton, including a clash at the final set of corners in the opening race of the event.
It marked the second time in Waters’ career that he won two races on the same weekend, after Townsville 2021, moving into third overall in the championship standings.
“So pumped to get it done, two wins this weekend,” said Waters.
“It means so bloody much, they [Tickford] work so bloody hard. I can’t thank them enough for all their effort.
“We still have a lot to catch this guy on race pace, but we’ll keep pushing.”
Van Gisbergen won the other race of the weekend from Waters, holding on to the championship lead.
David Reynolds and André Heimgartner also scored podium finishes in Winton, in a strong showing for the Victorian-based teams.
