Walkinshaw plots Le Mans return

Racing scion Ryan Walkinshaw wants to return to the race that made his family famous. The young boss of the Walkinshaw Andretti United Supercars team has a long-term plan to reprise his dad Tom’s feats at the famed Le Mans 24 Hours sportscar endurance classic.

In the latest Speedcafe Newscast, Ryan Walkinshaw reveals his ambition to emulate his father, who masterminded Jaguar victories at Le Mans in 1988 and 1990. Listen here:

Ryan Walkinshaw has been in charge at Clayton since his father died in late 2010, rebuilding the once-great team after a long slump that saw it lose its Holden Racing Team imprimatur.

He forged a global alliance with IndyCar legend Michael Andretti and McLaren F1 boss Zak Brown, creating Walkinshaw Andretti United in the wake of being dumped by Holden.

Walkinshaw’s international connections will lead him back to Le Mans, aiming for outright victory later this decade.
