SVG’s windfall as Waters emerges as likely replacement

PARKED UP PLUS podcast reveals huge Chicago pay day for Shane van Gisbergen, as Cameron Waters leads the race to replace him at Triple Eight Race Engineering.

11 July 2023

Supercars superstar Shane van Gisbergen struck it rich by winning on his NASCAR debut on the streets of Chicago.

Some claim his share of the US$7.5 million prize purse was as much as $1 million, but it’s difficult to substantiate. Van Gisbergen would have been on a prize money share deal with Trackhouse Racing, plus bonuses.

The latest PARKED UP PLUS podcast explores van Gisbergen’s windfall – and what it means for the future. Listen here:

It’s now accepted in Supercars that van Gisbergen will get an early exit from his Triple Eight contract to pursue a NASCAR career next year. His likely departure throws open the ‘silly season’ driver market, with Ford star Cameron Waters most likely to defect to replace SVG.

PARKED UP PLUS also hears from WAU co-owner Ryan Walkinshaw about the Ford teams on-going parity concerns. Walkinshaw is reasoned and calm in his appraisal of the Mustang teams’ disadvantage.

PARKED UP PLUS also has the latest on Supercars’ return to New Zealand and the renewal of the Newcastle 500.

Presented by motorsport news guru Mark Fogarty, it’s the podcast where you hear the big news from the big names.
