Team 18 announced as GM HT

Team 18 will be the official homologation partner of Chevrolet Racing from the 2026 Season and beyond, and GM has reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to Supercars across Australia and New Zealand.

“Our motorsport activities around the world are driven by three things; our passionate customers and fans, our cutting-edge technical innovation, and our incredible people,” General Motors Executive Director of Global Motorsports Competition, Eric Warren, said.

“Whether it’s Supercars, or any other race series that Chevrolet competes in across the globe, we are there to win, and we’re looking forward to working with Team 18 and all the Chevy Camaro teams in any way we can, to achieve that goal.”

GM Motorsports will take responsibility to ensure the competitiveness of the race car and engine in the Supercars series.

As part of this new alliance, GM says it will foster collaboration amongst Chevy teams and a connection back to GM Motorsports – giving teams and drivers opportunities to compete outside of Supercars, including building and facilitating more direct relationships with NASCAR teams.

Team 18 and the other Camaro based teams, will have access to GM Motorsport’s technical resources in the USA, including state-of-the-art development and engineering advancements, including AI, machine learning, simulations, and more.

The partnership also cements GM’s ongoing commitment to Supercars, with Jess Bala, Managing Director GM Australia and New Zealand (GM ANZ), highlighting GM’s decades-long presence in the series.

“GM has had an incredible 60-plus-year history of success in Supercars racing in Australia and New Zealand, and we know that Supercars fans love the Chevrolet brand,” she said.

“Participation in Supercars also enables us to showcase our GM Special Vehicles portfolio, which includes the purpose-built Silverado, the performance of the Corvette range, and the new GMC Yukon Denali, which will be launched in the coming months.

“We also just love the series, the excitement, the fans, and the racing.”

Team 18 has a strong history in motorsport, including an experienced engineering team that has gone through the homologation process.

While Team 18 is Chevrolet Racing’s official homologation partner, GM says it will call upon the expertise of the entire Camaro-based field as part of an alliance that will serve to make the entire field stronger.

Melbourne-based Team 18 joined Supercars in 2013 and compete with two Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 V8 race cars piloted by David Reynolds and Anton De Pasquale.

Founded and led by successful businessman Charlie Schwerkolt, the team will enter the 2026 season as an official homologation team for the first time.

“Today marks an exciting new chapter for Team 18 Racing. There is no doubt that these are big shoes to fill, but I believe we have the team, the machinery, and the talent to do it,” Schwerkolt said.

KRE Race Engines will continue to exclusively support the ongoing development and supply of the Chevrolet Racing LTR V8 engine, a powertrain that has delivered success in the Gen3 era.
