Supercars revises Sydney Motorsport Park test schedule as urgent Turn 8 repairs force split format
The Repco Supercars Championship has revised its pre-season testing schedule at Sydney Motorsport Park, splitting this week’s Destination NSW Test Day across two layouts due to urgent circuit works.
Sydney Motorsport Park is currently undertaking capital works at Turn 8 after damage caused by a rising water table, which led to water seeping through the asphalt surface. The repair program includes drainage installation and resurfacing of the affected section.
In response, Supercars and circuit organisers have agreed to divide the test across two days using different track configurations.
Teams and drivers will run on the shorter Druitt Circuit on Wednesday between 8:30am and 12:30pm, before switching to the Gardner Grand Prix Circuit on Thursday evening from 5:30pm to 9:30pm.
Supercars Chief Motorsport Officer Tim Edwards said the revised schedule followed consultation with teams.
“After assessing options and consulting with teams, Supercars has elected to split this week’s Destination NSW Test Day across two days,” Edwards said.
“Sydney Motorsport Park is currently undertaking urgent capital works at Turn 8, after the track surface was damaged by a rising water table causing water to seep through the asphalt.
“These works require the installation of drainage and resurfacing of the affected area.”
Edwards said the Druitt Circuit provided the best alternative while allowing Sydney Motorsport Park to complete the necessary works ahead of the race weekend.
The Dunlop Sydney 500 will open the 2026 Repco Supercars Championship this weekend, February 20–22, that includes a Supercars race on each day of the three-day event.
