Seto steps up for Townsville
Son of a gun replaces Cameron Crick, to gain valuable Supercars experience before endurance campaign
Matt Stone Racing has confirmed Aaron Seton will make his Supercars wildcard debut earlier than expected after being ear-marked to step into the team’s third entry for the upcoming Townsville round.
Seton had originally been scheduled to make his 2026 Supercars debut at the Ipswich Super 440, but a change to the team’s plans means he will instead pilot the wildcard entry in Townsville, giving him additional race experience ahead of the endurance season.
The change follows Cameron Crick’s decision to withdraw from his planned Townsville wildcard appearance after discussions with team owner Matt Stone. Crick will instead focus on addressing health concerns and preparing for the 2026 Enduro Cup, where he is set to co-drive the No. 4 Sherrin Rentals Camaro with Jack Le Brocq.
Crick said stepping away from the wildcard program was disappointing but believed it was the right decision.
“I’m incredibly thankful for the support I’ve received from my partners and everyone at Matt Stone Racing,” Crick said.
“The team has been fantastic, and while I’ll miss being on track in Townsville, I’ll be working hard behind the scenes and preparing for my return later in the year.”
Seton’s Townsville appearance will also showcase the team’s 2026 wildcard program, featuring a new livery celebrating the Seton family’s long history in Australian motorsport. Further details of the design will be revealed before the event.
Seton said his thoughts were first with Crick but admitted he was eager to make the most of the unexpected opportunity.
“Any chance to gain additional Supercars race experience is valuable, and being able to get an extra event under our belt before Ipswich and the Enduros is something I’m very grateful for,” Seton said.
Stone said the team’s priority remained supporting Crick while welcoming the chance to accelerate Seton’s Supercars program.
“At the same time, we’re excited to give Aaron the opportunity to step into the wildcard program earlier than planned,” Stone said.
“He’s done a fantastic job with us for a number of years. The team has strong momentum behind us at the moment, and we’re looking forward to seeing what we can achieve across all three cars in Townsville.”
