PODCAST: Supracar on target
WAU boss Ryan Walkinshaw explained the aero package for the Toyota Supercar is complete and work has began on engine development.
Walkinshaw Andretti United will switch from Ford Mustangs to Toyota Supras in 2026 and team boss Ryan Walkinshaw said development for the Toyota program is on schedule.
“We are very happy with where we are so far in the development… we are still on schedule to have a car on the track mid year, which was our plan from the beginning,” Walkinshaw told Mark ‘Foges’ Fogarty in this week’s episode of Race for the Championship podcast.
“Like all of these things there are always challenges that come out of the woodwork and things that we expected to be done in a certain amount of time that have taken a bit longer… it’s a huge program doing an aero package and engine development while also trying to compete in a championship competitively, but so far so good.”
Ryan said the majority of the aerodynamics of the racing Supra is completed and the focus now is on the engine development.
He also declared WAU’s ambition to win this year’s Championship for Ford, with gun driver Chaz Mostert, before switching to the Supras, and outlined his busy life as an international entrepreneur on the automotive scene.
“We did go into this relationship with Ford with ambitions to win a championship for them. While Chaz has been the leading Ford driver for the past two seasons we have just missed out on that championship win, which has been disappointing so we have huge ambitions this year to finish our Ford relationship on a high – for us to win our first championship as WAU and also for Chaz to win his first championship. He has been in the thick of it and (second driver) Ryan Wood has also been very competitive this season as well,” Walkinshaw said.
