Feeney heads ‘Race for the Finals’ but Payne the star of Symmons, as we reveal how fans can get exclusive experiences
Triple Eight’s Broc Feeney is leading the ‘Race for the Finals’ after round four of the Supercars Championship, the Tasmania Super440, which was held at Symmons Plains last weekend.
Feeney dominated both Saturday races to take over the lead in the series by 33 points from his teammate Will Brown.
He beat home Tickford’s Thomas Randle and BJR’s Bryce Fullwood in Race 11 then MSR’s Nick Percat and Tickford’s Cam Waters in Race 12.
It is the first time ever that Feeney has led the Championship at the end of a round.
Third on the Championship table is Kiwi Matt Payne, who struggled to find his form from the last round in New Zealand and was actually down on pace on Saturday. However, brilliant strategy from his Grove Racing team saw him claim victory in Sunday’s race due to masterful tactics and an awesome drive. He completed both of his pit stops under a safety car mid race – caused by a stranded Brodie Kostecki DJR Mustang. Payne was then christened with a new nickname of the ‘tyre whisperer’ after a brilliant drive to keep his rubber alive for 48 laps.
Feeney was flying, and caught the Penrite Mustang with one lap to go, but Payne used every trick in the book to hold him off by a mere 5-100ths of a second to take the chequered flag first.
