Three rounds and nine races into the 2022 Repco Supercars Championship and its two-time champion Shane van Gisbergen leading the field with a 144-point lead over his closest rival entering the Bunnings Trade Perth SuperNight.
However, as Supercars returns to Wanneroo Raceway for the first time since May 2019, van Gisbergen will need a reversal of form in Western Australia if he is to continues his winning start to 2022, having never won at the circuit in his career – the only current Supercars circuit where he hasn’t won a race.
The Bunnings Trade Perth SuperNight consists of three 110-kilometre races, with the first race grid spots determined by the three-part knockout qualifying and the latter two determined by single qualifying sessions.
The first of the three races, Race 10 of the 2022 Repco Supercars Championship, will be held under lights, three years since the circuit first hosted a night race.
Supercars will run on the Dunlop soft tyre compound for the event, at a circuit where tyre wear will be a factor despite a full layout resurfacing over the summer of 2018-2019.
The support bill for the Bunnings Trade Perth SuperNight is headlined by the Dunlop Super2 and Super3 Series, for what will be the feeder category’s second round of 2022. V8 SuperUtes, Historic Touring Cars and Radical Cup will also race alongside Supercars.
