Chaz Mostert has claimed the Repco Supercars Championship lead with a win and a podium from the opening two races of the 2022 season in Sydney.
The Bathurst winner held off Race 2 pole man Brodie Kostecki and Anton De Pasquale following a late rain shower, taking the championship lead after the opening round of the season for the first time in his career.
With Race 1 winner Shane van Gisbergen finishing in sixth, despite starting 21st, spinning and suffering a slow pitstop, Mostert takes a 12-point lead into the second event in Tasmania.
“I never thought I’d have an orange number on my car,” said Mostert, who finished third in Race 1.
“Driving up and seeing this [championship leader] board is pretty cool.
“It’s cool to tick that box off the list… I don’t know where to start. What a race, what a weekend for us. Super stoked for the whole team.”
