Mostert completes Sydney sweep
Chaz Mostert wins both races in Sydney to move into second place in the championship.
Walkinshaw Andretti United’s Chaz Mostert has completed a Panasonic Air Conditioning Sydney SuperNight sweep, taking victory in both races at Sydney Motorsport Park.
It was a battle of the Ford Mustangs under lights in Race 15, with Mostert waiting until the final laps to edge into the lead before he rolled on to victory. A one-stopping Matt Payne was powerless to deny a rampant Mostert, who claimed the lead with four laps remaining.
Payne crossed the line 2.6412s behind Mostert, with Thomas Randle, Will Davison and Anton De Pasquale completing an all-Ford top five, the second consecutive race Ford has claimed a podium sweep.
Mostert completed the event sweep in Race 16, moving into second in the championship with the win – just 105 points behind leader Will Brown.
It’s the first time since 2015 Mostert has taken consecutive race wins and first time in his career he has swept a race weekend.
Second behind Mostert’s Mustang was fellow Ford driver Cameron Waters with Brown in third.
It was the fourth consecutive win for a Ford driver, with Chevrolet Camaros last win coming in Darwin in June.
“It’s just a credit to the whole Walkinshaw Andretti United crew. We obviously rolled out a pretty good car and kept chipping away at it,” said Mostert.
The 2024 Repco Supercars Championship will resume at the NED Whisky Tasmania SuperSprint on August 16-18.
