With Holden and the ZB Commodore being replaced by Chevrolet and the Camaro under the Gen3 rules in 2023, Holden makes its 60th and last appearance in the Bathurst 500/1000 with the goal of a 36th and final win in 2022.
Walkinshaw Andretti United gave Holden the win at Bathurst in 2021, with defending race winners Chaz Mostert and Lee Holdsworth two of 11 former Great Race winners in the field alongside Shane van Gisbergen, Will Davison, Nick Percat, Mark Winterbottom, David Reynolds, Jamie Whincup, Garth Tander, Craig Lowndes and Greg Murphy.
Whincup, Tander, Lowndes and Murphy are amongst the returning drivers in the co-driver ranks. Whincup makes his return after his full-time retirement at the end of 2021, with former co-driver Lowndes slotting into Triple Eight Race Engineering’s wildcard entry.
There are three wildcard entries for the 2022 Repco Bathurst 1000, all racing ZB Commodores: Lowndes and rookie Declan Fraser at Triple Eight Race Engineering; Murphy and Richie Stanaway at Erebus Motorsport, after their planned entry for 2021 was scuppered by travel restrictions; and an all-rookie entry of Matt Chahda and Jaylyn Robotham for family-run team Matt Chahda Motorsport.
Chahda, Fraser and Robotham are amongst six Supercars and Bathurst 1000 rookies stepping up from the Dunlop Super2 Series, alongside Matthew Payne, Cameron Hill and Aaron Seton, while Porsche driver Jaxon Evans is another debutant. Seton makes history as the first third-generation Bathurst starter.
