Ford duo prevail in Perth

Walkinshaw Andretti United’s Chaz Mostert and Tickford Racing’s Cameron Waters shared the wins in Perth.

20 May 2024

Chaz Mostert and Cameron Waters snapped Ford’s winless start to the 2024 Supercars season, claiming the wins in the Bosch Power Tools Perth SuperSprint.

Mostert lost the lead to rookie teammate Ryan Wood off the line in Race 9, and braved a bold strategy call by the team to ultimately lead home championship leader Will Brown to give Walkinshaw Andretti United its first win as a Ford team.

Brown, having taken on four tyres at his stop, was forced to overtake Wood, who was denied a maiden Supercars podium by Waters following a last-lap overtake.

With Broc Feeney fifth, Brown extended his lead from 71 to 103 points heading into Sunday.

Mostert was denied a weekend sweep win after a five-second time penalty for a pitlane infringement handed the final race victory of the event to Waters.

An unsafe release penalty was imposed on Mostert after a close call in pitlane following a pitstop. Mostert had to fight to open a gap by more than five seconds if he was to claim the clean sweep for the weekend.

Waters closed on Mostert in the final laps. Mostert crossed the line first, however with the penalty he officially claimed second with Brown in third.

Brown now holds a 136 point Repco Supercars Championship lead over teammate Feeney heading into the next round on the calendar, next month’s betr Darwin Triple Crown, which runs 14-16 June at Hidden Valley Raceway.
