Twelve months ago, Mostert celebrated his first win in a Holden and with Walksinshaw Andretti United at Symmons Plains Raceway. One year on, Mostert returns to Tasmania as not only the reigning Bathurst champion but also as a championship leader for the first time in his career following two podiums and a race win at the season-opening event at Sydney Motorsport Park.
The NED Whisky Tasmania SuperSprint features three 110-kilometre races, with the Saturday race grid spots determined by the three-part knockout qualifying and the two Sunday races based on single qualifying sessions.
The event will be held exclusively on Dunlop’s super soft tyre, with a single set of the new-look blue-walled tyre per car helping to mix up proceedings in the season opener at Sydney Motorsport Park.
With the quicker yet higher degrading tyre on the shortest circuit on the Supercars calendar, there promises to be plenty of action across the three races. While it appears like a simple circuit on paper, Symmons Plains Raceway is one of the most challenging circuits for drivers to get right with its fast and flowing layout broken up by hard braking points, most notably at the Turn 4 hairpin.
Symmons Plains Raceway hosts its 49th Australian Touring Car Championship/Repco Supercars Championship round in 2022, having debuted in the first multi-round season in 1969.
The Repco Supercars Championship will be supported by the Haltech V8 SuperUtes Series, Aussie Racing Cars Super Series and the Tassie Tin Tops.
