Supercars oracle Mark Fogarty argues that it’s time to update the Supercars palette

“Supercars’ traditional Ford vs Holden rivalry is now the Blue Oval against Chevrolet’s gold bowtie badge,” he declared.
“Red was Holden’s signature hue, but not GM’s. It is, though, Toyota’s brand colour, so from next year the tribal tableau should be blue (Ford) vs gold (Chevrolet) vs new red (Toyota).
“It will be interesting to see if Big T’s GR Supra entry gets fan support proportional to Toyota’s domination of the local car market.
“Without any V8 heritage, it might be a struggle to convince diehard Supercars fans.
“Bigger picture, finally entering Supercars will give Toyota local fizz against the increasing onslaught from Chinese makes.
“Competing in Supercars will be a point of distinction in the world’s most ruthless motor vehicle market.
“Camaro vs Mustang vs Supra battle with big backing from three major manufacturers promises very interesting parity racing.
“Next year, the rivalry palette will be blue, gold/yellow and a new red.
“In the meantime, it’s blue vs gold, not blue against ex-Holden red.
“A small but important distinction in the evolving history of Supercars, still rightly rooted in Aussie V8 muscle car culture.”
