Tickford Racing’s Cam Waters grabbed the Championship by the scruff-of-the-neck with a clean sweep of the opening round of the 2025 Supercars Championship, claiming all pole positions and winning all three races.
All the talk at Sydney was just how close the racing was. Under lights on Saturday night the race may have been 200 kilometres but it was decided in the last 200 metres.
Waters was second coming onto the main straight, but in a flat-out drag to the flag, Triple Eight’s Broc Feeney struggled to hold Waters off as the ‘Monster’ car inched past to be in front right on the line.
The race was one of rough and tumble as Waters and Feeney swapped paint on a several occasions.
An early safety car caused by PremiAir driver Ritchie Stanaway, when his car was stranded on the track with a blown engine, sent almost the whole field to the pits at once resulting in a hairy moment when Waters was blocked by Feeney’s Triple Eight teammate Will Brown in a well orchestrated ‘double-stack’ maneuverer.
Feeney, now leading started to dictate the race to Waters.
The Tickford team had to pivot, and in a change of tyre strategy, Waters went long before his final pitstop giving him fresher tyres for the run home.
A tricky passing manoeuvre resulted in Feeney having a half-spin/slide. The dubious passing move, and possible penalty, forced Waters to readdress the position with Feeney, while simultaneously, holding off a charging Will Brown.
Race control deemed ‘no further investigation’ which allowed the results to stand despite team Triple Eight being less than impressed with some of the on-track ‘rubbing’.
It sparked debate amongst the drivers as to what the driving standards for the rest of the season would look like.
You can hear all about it in this week’s episode of the Race for the Championship podcast brought to you by VACC Automotive Apprenticeships and Supercars Travel.
If the weekend’s racing is anything to go by for 2025, then Supercars has a bright future.
Speaking of the future, Race for the Championship also caught up with RACE Chairman Barclay Nettlefold to discuss the state of Supercars.
The boss of the series owner talked about the latest controversy in the sport with Triple Eight expected to take over as Ford’s homologation team when they move marques for next year. He believes that all publicity is good for the sport
Nettlefold also indicated that the Perth street race for 2027 is all set to be signed off very soon and is not at all concerned about the recent revelation that the local council has opposed the event.

Brad Jones Racing driver, Bryce Fullwood, is looking to build on the momentum from the backend of last season at the Sydney 500 (February 21-23) in the trusty Middy’s Racing #14 Camaro.
“This year is going to be pivotal for me and the team,” he said.
“We saw through last year what we’re capable of. There were sparks of speed and then we were able to string everything together and get a podium.
“We know what we can achieve and it’s about getting it all right at the right time. The aim is to make sure we have that consistency through the full year.
“I cannot wait to get on track in Sydney. It’s odd looking forward to a test day but I just want to get this year underway and get racing.”
Middy’s Electrical’s striking pink will adorn Fullwood’s Supercar for the opening round of the Championship.
With minimal tweaks to the design from 2024, the much loved colours will also appear on the car in Darwin (Darwin Triple Crown 20-21st June) and at Sandown (Sandown 500, 14-16 November).
The Camaro will feature the same eye-catching colour scheme that was on the podium in Tasmania – Fullwood’s first for BJR.
Middy’s Electrical has demonstrated their enduring commitment in their role within Fullwood’s journey in Supercars, which commenced during his early karting career and has spanned 14 years.
While the major partner on Fullwood’s #14 Camaro will rotate throughout the season, Middy’s remains as an integral partner of both Fullwood and BJR.
The 2025 season promises fresh challenges, but Fullwood is confident in the team’s work during the latter part of last year and over the off season, that he can attack the competition from the first lights out.
The 26-year-old’s fourth season with BJR will start with the official pre-season test at Sydney Motorsport Park (19/02) just days before he lines up for the first race on Friday (21/02).
“Middy’s Electrical have been a part of my career since I was a kid and I’m thrilled that they’re still part of the journey. I have to thank Nicholas and Anton Middendorp, as well as everyone in the Middy’s team for their support for over 14 years,” Fullwood said.

Jaxon Evans is set to hit the track in a striking new livery for his second year in the Supercars Championship, showcasing a refreshed design on the SCT Logistics Camaro.
The SCT Motorsport entry will sport a dramatic update, transitioning from the business’ predominantly white and red colours to a bold locomotive-inspired scheme.
This new look pays homage to SCT’s proud heritage in rail freight while incorporating key design elements from their iconic 50-year celebration livery that Evans carried during the final four rounds of 2024.
The Kiwi is looking to back-up his strong rookie year with SCT Motorsport in the #12 Camaro with the first round of the Championship at Sydney Motorsport Park later this month.
Evans’ vast array of experience across categories has served him well as he took on the challenging Touring Car series in his rookie year.
Looking ahead to the 2025 season, Evans is optimistic about his chances of taking his performances to the next level with the support of his team and the guidance of his engineers.
Targeting outright performance, the 28-year-old is looking to build on the strong foundations that he’s laid in 2024 to not only be more frequently in the top ten but to be in podium contention.
The Porsche Carrera Cup Australia and France Champion will join the rest of the Supercars field for the official pre-season test day on Wednesday February 19th in Sydney.
Racing for 2025 will get underway a mere two days later, with a Friday night spectacular on the cards at Sydney Motorsport Park.
“Excited to be back for another year in Supercars and am thankful for the opportunity to be with SCT Motorsport for my second season,” Evans said.
“I have a full year’s worth of knowledge now and I’m keen to put that to good use. Hopefully we can achieve some better results in 2025.
“We were able to find some speed last year but weren’t able to be consistent with it. So the target will be able to work together to find that consistency across the different types of circuits and tyres.
“This season we’ll definitely look to be in the top ten a lot more frequently and hopefully be able to fight for some very good results.
“I’m excited to share the SCT livery with everyone, it’s a change to what we’ve had in the past and the first time SCT have evolved the livery in the Gen3 era.
“They’ve included the nod to their locomotive colours across the car which is quite nice.”
Head of Motorsport Programs, SCT Logistics, Andrew Jones said he can’t wait for the season to kick off under lights at Sydney Motorsport Park.
“Unveiling a new livery at the beginning of each season is always exciting, particularly with the engagement that comes from Supercars fans at this time of year,” he said.
“While we continue with a large portion of white on the car, the addition of the grey colour block and rail switch graphics make the car look very different to the past two years and aligns nicely with SCT Logistics’ locomotives and National rail freight business – Brad Norman has done a terrific job incorporating both elements into the design.
“Our group is now looking forward to round 1 at Sydney Motorsport Park under lights which is always a fantastic event to kick off the 2025 season.”
2021 Bathurst 1000 winner Lee Holdsworth and dual Porsche Carrera Cup Champion Harri Jones have joined the squad.
Holdsworth, who is making a return to the team after a four-year stint as the lead driver from 2015 to 2018, brings a wealth of experience to the table.
Following a 15-year full time career, Holdsworth stepped back to co-driving duties in 2021 and won The Great Race. He returned to a full-time drive in 2022 before retiring from the main game at the end of that season.
Since then, Holdsworth has focused on specialist co-driving duties, and is set to make his 22nd Bathurst 1000 start this year. Holdsworth also has nine Bathurst 12 Hour starts to his name, bringing a wealth of endurance experience to the team.
Meanwhile, Jones, a rising star in Australian motorsport, will make his Supercars Championship and Bathurst 1000 debut with Team 18.
The 26-year-old comes to the team after a stellar junior career, including multiple championships in both Formula 3 and Porsche Carrera Cup Australia. Jones also has valuable endurance experience, including a class win at the Bathurst 12 Hour.
Jones impressed the team during an evaluation day at The Bend in December last year, which secured his spot as a co-driver for 2025. He will pair his endurance seat with a full season campaign in the Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Championship, where he will be gunning for his third title.
Team 18 has opted for a balanced combination of seasoned experience and youthful talent in its endurance line-up, with Holdsworth and Jones set to provide a strong foundation for the team in the endurance races at The Bend and Bathurst.
The team has yet to announce which of their full-time drivers, Anton De Pasquale or David Reynolds, will partner with Holdsworth or Jones.
Both co-drivers will join the team for the 2025 Supercars Pre-Season Test at Sydney Motorsport Park on Wednesday 19 February, ahead of the season-opening Sydney 500 from 21-23 February.
The 2025 endurance races will take place at The Bend on 12-14 September and the Repco Bathurst 1000 on 9-12 October.
“It’s great to be returning to Team 18. It’s a little bit like getting the band together in a way after spending three of four years here,” Holdsworth said.
“There’s a few familiar faces around from my time here so it was nice to see everyone again, as well as guys like Dave Reynolds and Krusty Hollway who I’ve worked with at other teams in the past.
“My focus is on bringing my experience to the endurance races, especially Bathurst, and helping the team put our best foot forward at the enduros.
“I’m looking forward to getting back behind the wheel and working with the team to achieve some strong results this year.”
Jones said he is also excited to be joining the team.
“I’m thrilled to be joining Team 18 for my debut in the Supercars Championship and the Bathurst 1000,” he said.
“After my evaluation day at The Bend last year, I felt right at home with the team and the car, and now having the chance to compete at the highest level of Australian motorsport is truly a dream come true.
“It’s a whole new set of challenges, and I can’t wait to get started!”
Team owner Charlie Schwerkolt said he was happy to secure such qualified co-drivers.
“We’re extremely pleased to announce Lee and Harri as our co-drivers for the 2025 endurance races,” he said.
“It’s great to welcome Lee back to the Team 18 family. He’s a great fit for the team and what he’s gone on to do as a co-driver has been impressive, so we’re excited to lock him in for the enduros.
“Harri is an up-and-coming star. He’s risen strongly through the ranks here and overseas and we were impressed with his recent evaluation at The Bend. We’re extremely proud to reward him with his Supercars debut this year.
“This is a team that’s focused on reaching our potential this year and we’re confident that both Lee and Harri will play an integral role in helping us achieve that.
“We’re looking forward to seeing them in action at the pre-season test and the endurance season.”
2025 heralds a new era for R&J Batteries as they come into their 30th year in operation and to celebrate they’re marking the occasion with a stunning livery on the R&J Batteries Supercar.
Andre Heimgartner’s Camaro will still feature the classic R&J Batteries colours of red and black but with a gradient across the rear panels and bonnet, highlighting the sleek lines of the Supercar.
The Ballarat-based operation will also run the tagline ‘Celebrating 30 years, 1995-2025’ across the car for the entire season.
Taking their partnership with Brad Jones Racing into its fifth year, R&J Batteries have been a strong supporter of motorsports from grassroots to Supercars over their history.
From drag racing to Stadium Super Trucks, speedway, Touring Car Masters and many more categories, R&J Batteries have poured their support and energy into Australian motorsport.
Heimgartner proudly represented R&J on the top step of the podium last year during his emotional victory on home soil.
It was Heimgartner’s first win with BJR and to do it in spectacular fashion during the first ever Supercars race at Taupo was a special moment for all involved.
The team at BJR and R&J look forward to enjoying more of these moments together in 2025.
R&J Batteries supplies batteries for a diverse range of applications including cars, caravans, motorcycles, boats, commercial, industrial, solar and many more.
The company was co-founded by Managing Director Ray Robson in 1995 and became the fastest growing battery company in Australia.
They now have 29 company-owned stores and over 18,000 stockists and distributors in Australia and New Zealand.
Robson and his wife Rhonda are so much a part of the BJR family that the crew and Brad Jones decided to name the new-for-2025 chassis after her.
The chassis for car 8 has been registered with Motorsport Australia carrying the moniker ‘Rowdy Rhonda’ as a tribute to the well-loved figure at BJR.
Heimgartner drove the #8 R&J Batteries Camaro for a Shakedown at Winton Motor Raceway earlier this week before heading to the official Supercars pre-season test (Sydney Motorsport Park, 19/02/2025).
“It’s a special year for R&J Batteries, congratulations to Ray and Stuart [Hamilton, R&J Batteries CEO] on an incredible achievement. I’ve had the chance to see R&J Batteries locations and team members around Australia and NZ and they’re always so friendly and motivated – it’s a pleasure to be able to be part of their story even just a little bit,” Heimgartner said.
“The car itself looks fantastic – the livery has had a bit of a refresh and it’s just stunning.
“Coming into 2025 with a new chassis, new livery and the support from the team at R&J gives us a lot of confidence that we’re going in the right direction.
“I went into the off season feeling that there was more on the table for us which just adds to the fire in the belly for this year.
“Can’t wait to get racing and for some of the big events of this year. Returning to Taupo will be special and we all have our eye on the JR Trophy, that’s a big goal for this year. We came close in 2024, we were just a couple of points short in the end but that’s one that would be quite nice to win.”
Team owner Brad Jones also congratulated R&J.
“Congratulations to everyone at R&J Batteries on being able to celebrate 30 great years in business. It’s a testament to what Ray has built over three decades that they’re in the position they are,” he said.
“Ray is a tremendous person and someone that I count as a friend.
“R&J are a natural fit to BJR and are really part of the family. Ray and Stuart come along to most races and are as much a part of our garage as the rest of our team. So to them and to all of the R&J Batteries crew we thank them for the support and here’s to many, many more years as an Australian business success story.”
Team 18 has revealed the bold new livery for Anton De Pasquale’s #18 DEWALT Racing and David Reynolds #20 TRADIE Energy Chevrolet Camaros ahead of the 2025 Repco Supercars Championship.
DEWALT continues its long-standing partnership with Team 18 as the primary backer of the #18 Camaro. As the world’s largest power tool company and the flagship brand of Stanley Black & Decker, DEWALT’s presence in the paddock is stronger than ever. In 2025, Team 18 and Stanley Black & Decker will celebrate a decade of partnership, highlighting their enduring commitment to the sport.
The 2025 DEWALT Camaro features a striking new look, combining a gloss yellow base with sleek black styling – ensuring it stands out on the grid. Later in the season, fellow Stanley Black & Decker brand Cub Cadet will take on naming rights for three rounds, further strengthening the partnership.
De Pasquale launched the partnership with a humorous online video, trying to source a host of products in a list provided by team owner Charlie Schwerkolt. The video also features cameos from DEWALT influencer Joel from Heidi Build, teammate David Reynolds, and Team 18 mechanics. View the video here
De Pasquale finished 11th in the standings in 2024 and claimed the Jason Richards Memorial Trophy in Supercars’ debut at Taupō, New Zealand.
For the 2025 season, De Pasquale will work alongside race engineer Andrew Donnelly, another key off-season signing for the team.
“It’s awesome to be here at Team 18 and part of DEWALT Racing. The car looks fantastic – the gloss yellow and black make it really pop, and I think it’s going to stand out on track. The team has done an incredible job bringing the livery to life,” De Pasquale said.
“I’m proud to represent DEWALT, one of the world’s biggest tool companies and a key partner of Team 18 for almost a decade. It’s exciting to join that legacy and work closely with DEWALT throughout the year.
“I’ve settled in well – the team is super welcoming and very professional. I was lucky to get some early laps at Bathurst, and with our shakedown at Winton and the pre-season test at Sydney, we’ll be in a strong position heading into Round 1.
“With the new Supercars finals system and the introduction of a new tyre, adapting quickly will be crucial. We want to be in the mix when the finals roll around in Adelaide, and getting on top of the new tyre early will be key.
“I can’t wait to hit the track and get the season started!”
Meanwhile, Reynolds will pilot the striking #20 TRADIE Energy Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 in the 2025 Repco Supercars Championship. The launch marks the arrival of a bold new contender in the Supercars energy drink scene.
The newly launched Australian-owned energy drink brand will feature on Reynolds’ Camaro for the entire 2025 season. The livery showcases a sleek grey and black base with vibrant fluro yellow styling on top, inspired by the Lemon Squash flavour from the TRADIE Energy range, which also includes Creamy Soda and Passionfruit varieties.
TRADIE first partnered with Team 18 in 2024 alongside Bluestar Global Logistics, with both brands strengthening their commitment to Reynolds and the team for the upcoming season.
To celebrate the launch, Reynolds starred in a hilarious online video narrated by TRADIE ambassador Nick ‘Honey Badger’ Cummins. The video features Reynolds firing up the barbecue, cooking a steak, and performing a signature ‘shoey’ with a can of TRADIE Energy. View the video here
For the 2025 season, Reynolds will once again be engineered by Richard Hollway as he looks to build on last year’s campaign that saw him claim ten top-ten finishes and a best result of fourth at the Australian Grand Prix. He will also reunite with former teammate Anton De Pasquale, forming an exciting duo for the season ahead.
Reynolds will hit the track at Sydney Motorsport Park for a pre-season test on Wednesday, February 19, before the 2025 Repco Supercars Championship kicks off under lights at the Sydney 500 from February 21-23, live on Channel 7 and Fox Sports.
“I’m super pumped to reveal the TRADIE Energy Camaro – it looks absolutely stunning! The team has done an amazing job bringing these colours together. At first, I wasn’t sure how they’d work, but seeing the final product, I love it,” Reynolds said.
“I’m really excited to launch TRADIE Energy – it’s an underdog brand with a great Aussie attitude, and I can’t wait to take on some of the biggest energy drink names in the world.
“Anton and I are new teammates at Team 18 but old teammates from the past. He’s a great competitor, a really strong driver, and such an easy guy to get along with, so I’m looking forward to the year ahead.
“Last year had its highs and lows. We showed good speed at times but didn’t always convert it into results. This year, it’s all about consistency and moving up the grid. There’s a lot of hard work happening behind the scenes at Team 18, and I’m confident we can put together a fast car.”
Team owner, Charlie Schwerkolt said he can’t wait to see both cars racing under lights at Sydney Motorsport Park.
“We’re thrilled to continue our partnership with DEWALT and Stanley Black & Decker as we enter a new chapter with Anton De Pasquale in the #18 DEWALT Racing Camaro,” he said.
“Celebrating a decade of partnership with Stanley Black & Decker makes this season even more special. Their unwavering support has been instrumental in our journey, and we’re proud to continue building on this incredible relationship in 2025.
“The gloss yellow and black livery marks a fresh new look for the team, and I have no doubt it will be a fan favourite both trackside and on TV.
“With the backing of our valued partners and the dedication of our team, we’re set for an exciting 2025 season. We’ve made key off-season improvements, and we’re determined to push forward, deliver strong results, and make this a season to remember.”
“We’re also excited to unveil the #20 TRADIE Energy Camaro and continue building on our fantastic partnership with Ben Goodfellow and the team at TRADIE.
“David is a proven race winner, and with the backing of TRADIE Energy, we’re looking forward to an exciting season ahead. The new livery looks fantastic, and it’s great to see TRADIE stepping up to take on the big names in the energy drink world.
“With David and Anton reunited as teammates, we’ve got a strong driver lineup for 2025. The focus now is on building consistency, pushing forward, and delivering results on track.”
